The charming hill station of Kalimpong beckons you with her idyllic setting and eclectic enchantments. Located in a beautiful part of West Bengal and only a short scenic drive from the airport of Bagdogra, Kalimpong pulls travellers in as much with her beauty as with an incredibly fascinating history. The town sits prettily on a ridge which overlooks the Teesta Valley and the majestic snow clad Himalayan mountains in the distance, especially the towering Mount Kanchenjunga. In the past, Kalimpong was a major outpost of Indo-Tibetan trade and the remnants of that colourful past can still be seen.
Several educational institutions which hearken far back to the colonial period still thrive in Kalimpong like Dr. Graham’s Homes, St. Joseph’s Convent and St. Augustine’s School. The area in and around Kalimpong is also well renowned for being an ecological hotspot with a wide variety of flora and fauna. There is a intriguingly vast selection of cactus and succulents to be found here. Some other places of tourist interest include Durpin Hill, Deolo Hill, the Lepcha Museum and the Zang Dhok Palri Phodang monastery.
