What to Eat in Gangtok

Gangtok is an amazing place to explore some delicious and freshly prepared dishes. There is a little something for everyone here including for the more adventurous or for those with a normal palette. You do not want to leave Gangtok without trying their utterly delicious nettle soup, different kinds of homemade achaar and ethnic pork dishes. The nettle soup is fresh and served piping hot in the winters, it warms your entire body through. Achaar is made using a variety of ingredient including the hot and pungent daley chilly as well as bamboo shoot.

There are various kind of meat dishes made with subtle spices that can be had with rice or breads. The breads include Tingmo which is a steamed bun made from flour. A delicious noodle soup dish is Thukpa which is made from vegetables and meat in a light broth. Phingsha is made from vermicelli, vegetables and meat with the flavors being beautifully enhanced by the mixed stock. Momos or steamed/fried dumplings are a popular snack filled with meat or vegetables. Tongba is a traditional local millet based drink.
