Temples of Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar, the capital of Odisha, is renowned as being the “City of Temples.” For long, it has been a hallowed pilgrimage site for myriad of devotees who throng here to visit some of the many temples that are located all across this culturally vibrant city. The temples are from various time periods and are characterised by superb architectural design and distinct religious significance.

Lingaraja Temple:
One of the oldest and the largest temple in Bhubaneswar is the Lingaraja Temple which is also one of the prime tourist attractions of Odisha. The temple complex has many shrines, is enclosed by a wall and is characterised by the style of Kalinga architecture. A large courtyard is present and the temple is mostly made of sandstone and laterite.
How to reach – 5 kms from Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar, 4.5 kms from Bhubaneswar Railway Station.

Mukteswar Temple:
The Mukteswar Temple belongs to the tenth century and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. While the temple itself is comparatively quite compact, it is known to have some of the most exquisite and elaborate carvings. A major dance festival is held here every year that celebrates Odissi- the classical dance of Odisha.

Rajarani Temple:
The Rajarani Temple is beautifully laid out on well-maintained temple grounds. There are gorgeously carved sculptures. The Rajarani Music Festival is held here every year which celebrates the major Indian classical music traditions like Hindustani and Carnatic.

Best Time to Visit Bhubaneswar:
Bhubaneswar has a tropical climate and can be visited throughout the year but is most pleasant from October to April.
